Summary of Question:Gurus And God
Category:The Sikh Gurus

First of all I just wanted to say that I love the Sikh Faith. I am A sikh and follow the religion as best as I can. I fit into Sikhisn so well.

My question deals with how some people today consider Guru Gobind Singh Ji as God. It doesn't make sense to me. Why would Guru Gobind Singh Ji be God? It is said by him that you should only praise God and not him. This points to him admitting he is not god. Why do we call ourselves children of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and then on the other hand say we are children of God? Was Guru Gobind Singh Ji actually God himself or just a prophet? I think that today's society is leaning toward a polytheistic religion by having each Guru a God. This is wrong because it would be also leaning toward the Hindu religion and how they have many gods.By this our youth gets confused and forgets the principle of Sikhism as a whole.
I thank you dealy for listening to me.

*********************************************************************************Greetings and blessings to you in the Name of God and Guru.

I understand your concern and your understanding is very clear.

The Guru's in their time and now the Siri Guru Granth are the keys which unlock our mind's door to awareness of our connection with the Infinite Creator. The Shabd/Guru is the process through which the feeling of separation gets removed from our life experience.

All our 10 Guru's carried the light of truth. This is the light that carries us from darkness to light. Guru Nanak transferred his 'light' to his successor
( Bhai Lehna) and that is how the Guruship continued. However, Guru Gobind Singh gave this light of Guruship to the Siri Guru Granth Sahib rather than to a person. He also gave the light of the Guru to the company of his Sadh Sangat containing 5 Amritdhari Sikhs,to manifest. So, our channels of God consciousness are is very much open and available for us all to use.

Please do not confuse the Christian idea that we are children of God. We have a very practical code of daily living called the Rehit Maryada. In this system we all get Guru Gobind Singh as our Khalsa father and Mata Sahib Kaur our Khalsa Mother. This system gives us a very inspiring and instructive mother and father to follow. Regardless of the limits or challenges of our upbringing we have a system for acheiving God consciousness in our daily life.

Again, we are all a part of God. The Guru's were also a part of God as well as God realized Masters. They are examples, inspiration and a source of strength for us to use. Rather than get bogged down in who is God and who is father, get into the practice and experience the bliss of the Shabd. Share your upliftment

Remember, Bani Guru, Guru hai Bani, vich bani Amritsar. The bani is in the Guru and the Guru is in the Bani and in the Bani is the state of pure nectar

God bless you.
