in this answer you say that these do's and doesn'ts have been handed down. As they are known to work. The cast system used in Punjab has also been handed down. Surely this does not work as it means all people are not equal. How can we tell which of the traditions pasts down are good and which ones are bad

Sorry, I do not know which answer you are referring to.
As far as discerning what is right vs what is wrong...you must follow the guidelines of the Rehit Maryada of the Khalsa.
