Dear Bhai sahib,

You have shown a lot of strength in seeking counsel from the community to help you overcome your dependance on certain substances. I compliment you on your courage and am both willing and able to help, in whatever way I can, to enable you to achieve the goal that you have set for yourself.

Please contact me directly on [email protected] and we will take this matter forward.

The moderator, in his response, has said that 'Humans are social. One of the first things to do if you are serious is stop hanging out with other people who do those things. They are not your real friends. Hang with people who are not self destructive."

This advice seems to have been taken straight from Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Kabir has alluded to the example of a beear (sort of fruit) tree that has grown near a banana tree...the leaves of the beaar tree have thorns in them and all that has to happen is for these thorns to come in close contact with the leaves of the banyan tree...(a gentle breeze would suffice).. Thereafter, without much effort on the part of the beaar tree, the leaves of the banyan tree are reduced to smithereens.

The first step would be to take yourself away from the sangat of the people who brought you / continue to bring you in touch with these substances....the next step is to fill up the time so made available with other productive and time consuming activities.

Do write in and we will work together on putting a daily plan in place..and check out the actual adherence regularly...remember a journey of several miles begins with the first few steps...you have already taken those steps...with the grace of the akal purakh, your own desire and determination and the power of your very own prayer...you will very successfully meet this challenge..

Sri Guru Granth Sahib tells us very clearly.." whenever you need to accomplsih any task convey that to the Guru and he will help you.."

I will sign off with the Guru's advice.."birthaa kaaade naa jaaaey jaaan kee arrddasss."...the prayer of an individual made with a pure and determined heart never goes waste...

I wish you God speed in your venture ....may the Akal Purakh forever keep you in Cherdi Kala (high spirits)

Gur Fateh

Hargurmit Singh

I compliment your decision to seek the help of others in our community
