Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I have seen some sikhs greeting with "Sat Shri Akal" and some with
"Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh". Why do sikhs use two
different greetings? How and when these ways of greeting started?

Please clarify.

Greetings in the Name of God, the Light of every soul, and in the Name of Guru, the Light of every Sikh. When Sikhs take the baptism of Amrit, becoming 'Khalsa' or 'Amrit Dhari Sikhs', one of the instructions given to them during the Amrit ceremony is to greet other 'Amrit Dhari Sikhs' they meet with "Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waha Guru Ji Ke Fateh". Sikhs who have not taken the baptism of Amrit often greet each other by saying "Sat Siri Akal". In America, many Sikhs greet each other by saying "Sat Nam". The purpose of all of these greetings is to elevate the consciousness and imbue their communicaitons with the light and truth of the Shabd Guru. Thank you for writing to the Sikhnet Youth Forum.
