Summary of Question:Re: banis to be done daily
Date Posted:Wednesday, 8/23/2000 8:57 AM MDT
Dear Khalsa JI,

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

I was recently listening an audio cassatte of Giani Sant Singh Ji Maskin, It was totally related to your question, so I would like to share some of the contents from there.

With the Grace of Dhun Dhun Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, we received this gift of "Nitnem". NIT daily Nem work or routine. It was formed by HIM only in this way that 5 Banis will be read early in the morning and two in the evening as Nitnem. However Guru HIMSELF said "Ik do jeebho lakh hoi lakh howe lakh bees, lakh lakh gera akhiye ek naam Jagdeesh" means as many times you can take HIS name take it.

According to Maskin Ji, in Japu Ji Sahib we find that WHO will be praised, How HE will be praised and When will be praised.

1st Answer is "AD SACH JUGAD SACH HEBHI SACH NANAK HOSI BHI SACH" means we need to pray for Sach, Truth, GOD.

2nd Answer is the same as above "Ik du jeebho lakh hoi lakh hoi lakh bees, lakh lakh gera akhiye ek naam jagdeesh" means chant on HIS name as many times you can.

3rd Answer is also in Japuji Sahib only "Amrit wela Sach Naun vadayee vichaar"
Every thing has a time assigned to do. Like if we plant a seed, that has to be in a specific season. Similarly, if we plant HIS NAAM in our mind, it needs a perfect season also.

Then once this Simran goes into your breaths from mouth it becomes JAP. You don't speak now, it is automatically running inside you. Your nerves, your mind, your brain start Chanting on Waheguru themselve. That is a stage, where a person start seeing GOD and HIS Mercy in all things around him. He praises everything then, "Namo Suraj Surje, Namo chander chadere, Namo raj raje, Namo inder indere" means praising the GOD of SUN, the GOD of MOON, the KING of all KINGS.

3rd stage Maskin ji describes as "BAIRAAG". When a person is so in love, but haven't met the GOD yet. He is in so love that he start living in a hope of seeing his GOD at any moment. He cuts off his connection from matarialism and becomes in a position, where he has only one thing to do, to reach his destination, to be one with his GOD. That bani is described in Shabad Hazare.

After finding GOD here and there in various places, means after going through all the KARAM KANDS, still he hasn't met GOD, so now he prays that Please meet me with your own mercy, please take care of me like your own child,
"Humri karo haath de rachha, pooran hoi chit ki ichha, taw charnan man rahe hamara, apna jaan karo pritpara, humre dushat sabhe tum ghawo, aap haath de mohe bachawo" The whole paath of Chaupai Sahib is Ardas.

And 5th and final stage is "ANAND" when your Ardas was accepted by GOD. then person says "Aanad bhayia meri mayen Satguru main payia."

Rehras Sahib paath is for the evening, which helps you to figure out that what you did in the whole day. Then tells you that don't roam around, don't rush for things "Sail pathar mein jant upaye ta ka rizak agge kar dharyia" "Udde ud awe se kosa tis pachhe bachre charia tin kawan khalawe kawan chugawe man mein Simran karia" then why are you roaming around. Just do your Simran, you are getting everthing itself. Once a person understands that then he says "Hum keere kiram Satgur sharnai kar daya Naam pargas, mere meet Gurdev moko Raam Naam pargas" again process of Ardas (Chaupai Sahib) starts and you reach till ANAND.

At the end of Rehras Sahib there is an amazing thing. Once you reach at ANAND stage, you might feel that I prayed HIM, I did my paath as hard that I met GOD. but no, it is again HIS own mercy that You met HIM. "TERA KEETA JATO NAHIN MENU JOG KITOYI, MAIN NIRGUNARE KO GUN NAHIN APPE TARAS PIOYEE, TARAS BHAIA MAIN REHMAT HOI SATGUR SAJJAN MILIYA, NANAK NAAM MILE TAAN JEEWAN TAN MAN THEEWE HARIA"

Before bedtime, Keertan Sohila, it is again praising the truth, the one, the GOD and requesting that as I have spent the whole day in your Simran, please help me so that I can spend the whole night in your Simran only.

I must appreciate Maskin Ji's philosaphy, whatever he says, is perfect and understandable. I might have made some mistakes while writing this down, please forgive me if you find them.

Thank you for your time
