wahe guru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh,

dear khalsa ji, i am a g.sec in the gurudwara in kenya today was martyr day
of our 5th guru ,so i gave "vadayian" to the sangat of this great day. but
some of the sangat criticised me for giving vadayian they said it is not a
happy day you should give "shradhanjli". i think i was right because we celebrate this day not mourn. i told them jesus christ was crucified and that day is called good friday not sad friday or bad friday. because guru gave his life for me and all of us. please clarify whether i was right or wrong.

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh. I think both sides are have a point. It is a sad day because our 5th Guru was martyred. It is a great day because Guru willingly gave his head and gave us the example of dying for what we believe in. It gave us the seed for the strength we would later need under 10th Guru, to do battle for our survival as Sikhs; to do battle for our right to worship as we believe. It is always sad when others try to conquer by martyring great saints. But you are right that Guru gave his life for us and we might not be here as Sikhs if he had not.
