In yoga one is asked to make his mind pointblank. The student is asked to
become aware of one's incoming and outgoing breath. But Sikhism lays stress on 'Naam jaap' i.e go on repeating name of Waheguru. So aren't we getting astrayed
if we start following yogic practices?

I don't think so. I am quite familiar with the awareness excercises that you mention and I have found no difficulty at all in being aware of the breath, in the breath-in/breath-out process and my side by side rememberance of our Lord God Waheguru.
Excercises that help us to have a healthy body and mind cannot be bad.
