I know that in other religions certain languages are considered holy. In Gurudwaras I often hear elders say that children should definitely know how to speak Punjabi. I have heard that the Guru Granth Sahib contains 26 different lanquages. So looking at a spiritual point of view is there any link between Sikhism and Punjabi?

What is most important is knowing Gurmukhi as this was the medium the Gurus used to write Gurubani. It is important to know to read, write and speak it. Knowing Punjabi helps immensely in understanding Gurubani as several words are similar. It also helps in communication with bulk of our fellow Sikhs in Punjab who only speak this language. Is is beautiful language with grat literature and folklore. So don't try to resist it, embrace it!
