basically, ive read your posts on masturbation but i need to get something sorted. basically im an amritdhari boy whos 16, i dont really have problem with masturbation and can control it quite well. ( just for the record and im tryng not brag because its all with gods help, i think He really kicked the living crap out of the "urge",and im very happy! i had problems but if u put your mind to it and keep faith in God, He destroys it!!) But the only thing is, isnt it true that if you dont masturbate and ejaculate u end up having wet dreams? i dont really like this so thats why i masturbate every two days or even daily. i know wet dreams are natural but you can control them by masturbating cant you? i wanna get this cleared up cos i really think i can stop masturbating, it was a problem b4 but now with guru jis help its quite under control. the thing is im not to keen about waking up in the night with wet pants? but the dilemma is i dont want to mess up my ojas or anything either. Thanks

Son, masturbation is a natural function. You are not going to mess up your ojas by relieving the pressure of 16-year old raging hormones every couple of days. Moreover, if masturbation prevents wet dreams, then the former is clearly preferred. I do not know, scientifically, if it actually prevents them, however.

Understand, everyone, that puberty and the maturing process in boys is one where hormones are causing massive body changes. You cannot control the hormones (although you can research dietary ways to mitigate hormonal peaks and valleys). These 'raging hormones' cause, in young men, overwhelming sexual urges. It is practically an assault on the body not to do something to relieve them. For some boys, a lot of physical exercise (running, football, soccer, track, hockey, basketball) can help alleviate the sexual urge. Still, you are who God made you to be and at 15-18 years of age (not limited to those ages, though), your hormones make you horny. Generally, by age 20 or so, the hormones stabilize and the urges are not so overwhelming.

I think the concern over masturbation is far more cultural than religious. If I were the mother of a 16-year old boy, I would rather he masturbate than have uncontrolled sex with teenage girls, when neither party knows what they're doing or has any idea what they're getting into.

I only know of one way to really CONTROL an overwhelming sexual urge. That is correct practice of kundalini yoga. Really. Because done right you literally pull the sexual energy up out of the sexual chakra (2) and into the higher chakric centers, where you can use it for other, non-sexual creative purposes. So, all you kids so hung up on your raging hormones, look for a kundalini yoga class near you. www.3ho.org can get you started.

In lieu of kundalini yoga, chant the Naam daily with a STRAIGHT spine (on a pillow, back against a wall if you need) and give your body peace that way. This works, but it takes longer to get there, and you really have to do it daily. The SGGS tells us that naam simran is the true medicine for all ills and for conquering the 5 demons of lust, anger, greed, pride, and attachment. You might try this at night before sleep but do it for a while, at least 31 minutes.

Finally, everyone out there needs to understand that the 1st evil translated as 'lust' in SGGS is not defined as the natural sexual drive. It is understood as focus on sex to the exclusion of all else, as well as inappropriate sex without commitment or love. It is also understood as perversion. Masturbation is not a perversion. If you feel guilty about it, then someone somewhere probably told you sex is bad. It's not. 9 of the 10 gurus were MARRIED householders, and had the children to prove it.
