Summary of Question:Saropa's Accumulate At Home. What Can We Do With Them ?
Category:Sikh Practices
Date Posted:Sunday, 1/09/2000 5:02 AM MST

Saropa in the form of a ramala is usually given to us in the Gurdwara when we celebrate either Akhand Path, Sahij Path, child's birthday etc. What tends to happen is that ramala's accumulate at home which we safeguard and keep at home.

Apart from just storing them at home what else can we do with them ? Please give a practical answer to this request.

Dear One:
Sat Siri Akaal. If you mean saropa that is long and worn around the neck, you could always 'recycle' them, by making them available to gurdwara or Sikh community for events/purposes as you describe.

If you mean ramallahs that we use to cover Siri Guru Granth Sahib, you could:
1. donate them to Gurdwara so Guru never wears the same ramallah;
2. Donate them to Sikhs in the community who have room for Babaji but maybe no ramallahs or only one or two sets.
3. Save them to give as gifts when family/friends move to a new home and set up their own Gurdwara/Babaji's room. My friends did this for me when I told them I was creating a space for Babaji, and they gave me ramallah sets to cover Babaji for six months without repeating (I change them monthly). I am STILL grateful for this, since I cannot get them where I live, and am not handy with a sewing machine.

I hope this gives you some ideas. Guru rakha,
