Is having a boyfriend wrong? There is a guy who likes me but i don't know him. My friends said he's a nice person. He's good looking, kind, polite and tries his best to convince me that he likes me a lot. He asked me to be his girlfriend. Should i say yes or no?

(REPLY) Sat Nam. He may indeed be a very nice person, but I don't know how old you both are,and I especially don't know: What does it mean to "be his girlfriend?" What would you be agreeing to? Would it mean that you always go to parties, and movies etc. with him as your escort and only him? Would you be considered a "couple?" If you are 12 it may mean one thing, and if you are 15 it may mean something else. At a fairly young age, we all want to be liked and to feel we "belong," and having someone pay special attention to us is very flattering.-- But the fact is, it's not usually such a good idea to limit yourself to one special friend especially of the opposite sex!. And, depending upon your age, having a boyfriend can lead to a kind of intimacy that is definitely not a good idea as many girls have found out when the relationship ends, as it almost always does. So, if I had to simply say yes or no, I would suggest that you tell him (and your friends) that you appreciate the offer, but you don't want to tie yourself down to any "boyfriend" - and would prefer to go out in groups and get to know many people. Peer pressure can be very strong, but I hope you can be strong enough to be your own person, and maintain your dignity and grace as a Sikh girl who intends to be a strong and graceful Khalsa woman. May God bless you and Guru guide you with wisdom and courage to act righteously in every situation. SP
