Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh!!!

I am a Sikh Female, and I was wondering how I can help a friend who I am 99% sure is suffering from annorexia and depression? She is definetly in denial about it but I dont want to ask her anything since I know from past experiences that she would back off and really lose any contact with me if I was to even bring us the subject. I really care for her and I feel very stuck cause there is no one that she would talk to and our freindship is also on very shaky grounds right now. I dont know how you can help since this is a very tough situation, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I know this is a sikhie website and we are probably suppoesed to ask questions only about sikhie but I am lost, I really dont know where to go. I might also add that she is a grown adult so its hard to talk to her like she needs help. Well anyway,I hope you can atleast help me deal with feeling so helpless if not her. Thanks alot for taking your time out and reading this. God Bless!!!

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

If your friend is suffering from anorexia and depression, there is very little you can do for her until she is ready to reach out and get help. Even if she winds up in the hospital, she may not be willing to admit she has a problem. It's a very very difficult situation. As a friend, you can educate yourself about eating disorders so, if she does at some point reach out to you for help, you are prepared to point her in the right direction. In the meantime, be as good a friend to her as you can and wait for her to come to you. Young women who suffer from eating disorders suffer from tremendously low self-esteem. If it isn't too traumatic for you, keep the friendship going. Be with her, support her, help her feel good about herself. But wait for her to ask for help - there's no other way.

You can visit this website to find out more about Eating Disorders:

http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/eatingdisorder.cfm

Also, find out if there are any support groups in your area for those with Eating Disorders. If there are - attend a few of the meetings - again - it will help you get educated so you can help her if and when she reaches out to you.

God bless you.
