Summary of Question:Problem With Sikh Converts. One More Thing
Category:General Sikhism
Date Posted:Wednesday, 12/24/2003 1:37 AM MST

sorry to refer to it as this but converted sikhs know MORE about sikhism than people from india do. i was born in india and am a sikh but not because i was born in a sikh family but because i read the teachings of guru and i am inspired by it.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. I think I can safely say that non-Indian Sikhs have never been "converted." (Conversion implies some kind of forceful change from the outside) Rather, each soul has recognized they belong to the Guru and have been exceedingly grateful to have found again this universal path of service, honor, dignity, devotion, courage, and compassion. All of this in order to fulfill the longing of the soul and at the same time strive to make this a better world for everyone, without discrimination. It is a path for realistic idealists! SP
