Sat Sri Akaal ji!

Dear Veerji/Bhainji,
I have a question about Drinkning. I've been trying to follow Sikhism (even though I have a hair cut). Through Waheguru's kirpa I've been trying to do naam simran, recite bani. I'm 19 years old, I use to drink 2-3 years ago, and through Waheguru's kirpa I stopped and started to follow Guruji the best way possible, I'm currently in University, and I get tempted to drink and do other things that result in committing sins, I try to keep myself away from drinking/smoking/clubbing, because I don't want to get into it, because I know its all temporary, and its just worldy love. One day I want to follow every word of Guruji, and with his kirpa take amrit. So can you please tell me how I can refrain from drinking although I'm VERY tempted to do so. Bhul chuk maaf ji.

Sat Sri Akaal!!

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Resisting the tempatation to drink -- or do anything else that pollutes your body and mind (which are God's gifts to you!) simply requires your firm commitment and determination that "come what may, you will NOT lower your standards."
It is simple, but I understand it is not easy. However, others have done it, and so can you, if you really, really want to live righteously with self-respect and dignity and grace so that you can indeed feel like Guru Gobind singh is your father, and know that you would not want to do anything to spoil the relationship! Keep up, and you will be kept up! blessings, SP
