Summary of Question:Cosmetic Surgery For My Profession

Gurfateh,

Before I proceed, I would like to point out that this question has been asked once before, but not quite in this context (so please don't be mad with me!)

Basically, I'm looking to work in the entertainment industry..part of this means being able to sing..the problem is my nose..it produces a nasal sound..which isn't desireable for singing (especially not radio work, which is another field I wish to enter.) Furthermore, I have always had an insecurity about this particular body part (which dissapeared, but because of the above, it's now coming back into the picture.)

As a result, I'm really contemplating corrective surgery to improve the tone of my voice and to make it more proportional to my face (the latter really stems from insults my own parents throw at me. Furthermore, its difficult to deal with because I'm the only one in the family who has this nose.)

Would it be immorale or un-sikh like for me to go with corrective surgery? This would improve my confidence, my self esteem, stop people bullying me, it would make me more appealing for work (in the entertainment industry) and would improve my voice (for radio work.)

Thank you so much for your time,
Rab Rakha

Sat nam. I understand your concern because the entertainment industry is not about people who look like us (sikhs) or who aren't 'model perfect', which also isn't us, meaning most people.
Anyway, this is cosmetic, not corrective surgery, and this is not the Sikh way. The choice is yours. I suggest you try to make it as you are, just to prove to yourself and the rest of us that we can succeed without compromising ourselves.
Guru ang sang,
-DKK
