Sat Sri Akal (Hello),

My questions are very philosophical, My aim is to gain knowledge, true and logical explanation, not to hurt any faith.

I was born in a Sikh family. I am admired by the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji, i.e. not to believe in superstitions, respect women, treat everybody equally irrespective of their caste and religion, However, one question always puzzles me that during the Sikhism evolution from GuruNanak Dev Ji to Guru Gobind Singh ji, The actual aim of Sikhism also effected a lot, If Guru Nanak Dev ji mentioned not to follow or worship idols then why we Sikhs wear a Turban (Dastaar)?,From one point of view it is a kind of superstition, some people say it to protect our Kais, Having Kaise can also be regarded as having geneu in Hinduism but Guru Nanak dev ji Dev Ji did not allow to wear a geneu then why we should have kaise. We think that our guru will not treat us as a sikh. We should follow Guru from heart not from our outlook. When we go to Gurudwara we always put something to cover our head, some people say it shows respect for Gurus, But Guru never taught us to follow such kind of superstition. Or our Sikh religion is influenced by Islam that has same head wear compulsion.

Try doing a search on the topic of HAIR on Sikhnet. There have been so many responses to your question. As Sikhs, we don't do out of ritual (although many do, of course). Our hair is not a ritual. There are scientific reasons...and there are identity reasons. Do your research and then write us back and we can have a discussion about what you have read. GTKK
