Summary of Question:How Much Of Our Earnings Do We Give To Needy

I would like to know how much of our earning do we give to the needy. One of my christian friend said that every month she gives 10% to god, i.e church and charity. Do sikhs have a similar idea? I try to give money every month but i donate random amounts. Thank you for your time and help.

Sat nam. Tithing is about giving 10% to God's work, so typically one tithes to one's place or organization of worship, whether a gurdwara, a church, a temple, or the umbrella association that oversees the particular place of worship. Giving to the needy, while important, is not considered the same as tithing. How much one gives to the needy is totally personal and up to the giver.
