Sat Sri Akal,

i am a non-sikh female marring a sikh, it si a love cum arrange marriage. My future inlaws are very liberal people, once in a conversation my Mother in law said that my future children will be more attracted to their(sikh) religion then mine. i come from a intercaste marraige and we had the freedom to decide want to follow and i choose to follow both my mum and da releigion.

please advise, on that comment i said that i may not tell my child not to follow your(sikh) religion but at the same time i will not want you to say that he/she cannot respect my religion and i respect my future husband religion but cant never leave my own religion.because what i beleive is that if i can leave the religion that i m following since last twenty years then i cannot respect any other religion.

Please advise

Thank You.....

Dear one,
The Sikh way of life is an interfaith orientation. The power that one gets from chanting Naam, Shabds, etc. is sonething for all to use and benefit from. Our Siri Guru Granth Sahib is compiled with the writings of Hindus and Sufi's Muslim and all faiths. Most important is the message of the oneness of God and all creation. So, you should always feel welcome into the Sikh Gurdwara as all are welcome. And reciting shabd and reading an following Siri Guru Granth Sahib will embellish your faith.

Ask your future Mother in law to explain what she meant. You and I can second guess, of course. But, sharing and discussing will bring you greater understanding and foster your relationship with her. You will be happy to do this.

Love and blessings to you,
SKKK
