Summary of Question: | Caste, Religion And Marriage |
Category: | Love & Marriage |

I have numerous times read it is permitted to marry between castes, and even, though not nessarily encouraged, marry beteeen religions, i.e sikh + hindu. Though still older sikh relatives and my parents still see it as only honurable to marry between the same caste. I find this very agitating. Is there any verses, sections or phrases out of the 'Guru Granth Sahib' that show that this is ok, or that forbid the use of castes? Thank you for your time. God Bless all
thank you.

Sat Siri Akaal. Please see this lengthy article about caste and its effect on the Sikh community. You will find quotes from SGGS in it as well. You need Gurbani Lipi font to read the Gurmukhi; you can get that font elsewhere on Sikhnet site. http://www.sikhnet.com/s/Castes-HarbansLal
