This is in response to the person hearing voices in his/her head which tell him/her to harm the people around him. I want to make it clear to this person that depending on the duration of symptoms, these audio hallucinations could be indicative of a serious psychiatric disorder known as Schizophrenia. The person should not be afraid of any stigma, as this is a well known and well characterized psychiatric disorder, with known drugs and other therapies that are effective in its treatment. As a physician, I just wanted to communicate the advice that this person should seek the help of a Psychiatrist immediately, because their quality of life and those around them can be drastically improved.
