Sat Siri Akaal everyone!!!

I come across a lot of Sikh names which seem to describe an attribute of Waheguru- like "God the protector" or "God is victorious" etc. Is there a name which means "God is merry" or "God gives laughter"? Because as I move toward my marriage and the taking of Amrit also, I think I should like to adopt a name expressing joy so I can put behind me some sadder things of the past.

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa
Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Elizabeth

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

When you take Amrit, Elizabeth, you become a Khalsa and automatically are regarded as being different than before Amrit. The Amrit ceremony is about putting behind you all your past, period. Here are some options, but I couldn't find exactly what you want, and since I speak no Punjabi, can't help you more specifically.

Sukhleen - Absorbed in joy of God's love
Sukhpreet - One who values inner peace and joy
Sukhshant - The one who is in bliss and peace

From Guru Gobind Singh's Jaap Sahib, I found several references involving a variation on "asok" (the 'o' pronounced as in 'cloak'). "Asokay", means free from sorrow and worry (verse 12). Also, in verse 199 is the word "Bhugatay", which means (supreme) Enjoyer -- the implication meaning Enjoyer/enjoyment of All things. The full line is "in all 4 corners and 4 directions He is the Enjoyer" ["...Chattr Chakkra Bhugatay"]

Hope this helps. Guru ang sang,
