Dear sister,

Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh!

Get yourself and children involved with volunteering at Gurdwara e.g. Punjabi school & Gurmat camps. They will make many friends through those activities & will meet many male role models; this will also keep you busy enough not to miss those friends who are married and busy in their families.

As a mother, you have the power to shape your children’s future. No matter what path their father chose, they are going to look up to you for answers about faith. A positive talk will help them see the ‘good’ in an Amritdhari Sikh.

Yes, there is a great need to have support group for single parents in our community, but until then, I suggest you have ‘kirtan/simran’ programs at your own place & consider the sangat that attends it as your support group. Children like having friends over, what else can be better way to invite friends over?

I am sure your preteen kids must be keeping you on toes, but if you do have free time that makes you lonely, consider pursuing a hobby or learning something new in your free evenings & weekends. Join a health club; grow a vegetable garden; read good books; they are companion forever; bike with your children.

If you would like an e-mail buddy, please feel free to get my e-mail from sikhnet moderators.

Cheers!

Guru Rakha
