WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!

I recently converted to sikhism and my mother doesn't seem to agree with it. she confuses it with radical islam and i keep telling her this is not the case. when i came home one day wearing traditional punjabi clothes she was frightened.i also want to grow my hair and where a turban but she says that is out of the question. what can i do to get her to understand the religion that i love so much? even going to the gurdwara sahib becomes a hassle because i have to sneak there sometimes. i know its wrong but what other way is there? also when i do go to the gurdwara sahib some of the older members dont seem to like me. when i say Sar Sri Akal to them they ignore me. this isn't all of them just some. what can i do to get their respect and for them to understand that i want to be sikh just like them.

Dear one,
Move slowly and consciously.
Share your readings of the Gurus with your Mom. Introduce her to the love and light of this life and the acceptance and support of all religions. Show her Sikhnet and the mrsikhnet blog.

Be kind and patient too. When you go to Gurdwara and greet people, do it with a smile. If you are ignored, never mind.Perhaps they do not understand what you are saying. In any case..... Just be graceful and gracious and enjoy the kirtanc and the langar and the people that are friendly to you.

Your Mom may be anscious or scared, but this is normal if you just pop everything on her without sharing your experiences with her. Share your interest in Sikhee with her. Make an appointment to meet her and discuss over dinner. Explain what is attractive etc.

Blessings to you,
SKKK
