Someone asked whether Sikhism objects to contraception. According to our religion, there is no need for it. The purpose of having sex is to reproduce. Sex is not used for pleasure. Because of this belief, there is no need for ontraception.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. There is no prohibition against using contraception. And there is no objection to a husband and wife enjoying sex as an expression of their love for each other! We are not Puritans, nor are we Catholics. Sex should be a joyous consummation of mutual love, not a "duty" performed only to create babies. If a couple wishes to have children, that is marvelous, and hopefully God will bless them that way. SP
