waheguru jee kaa khalsa, waheguru jee ki fateh!

firsty l would just like to say that this forum has been a real help to me and has answered a lot of questions in my mind!

i am a 16 year old sikh girl. well, this isnt really a problem as such, but the thing is that a lot of my friends at school wear thongs, them horrible stringy underwear! and i try telling them to stay clear of them, and when they say why, i honestly do not know what to say! so i just wanted to know that does sikhi give any views/answers on this? is it sinful to wear them? if so what are the reasons why?

As Sikhs, we wear modest underwear for 2 reasons...one, for modesty and to remind ourselves that we are not "sex objects." That we have dignity, integrity and character values and are not "for sale," which is suggested with thong type underwear and other such clothing. Second, it is very unhealthy for women to have their vaginas exposed...if air gets into the vagina, it can cause complications to the whole female sex organ system. Maintain your grace and live healthy. If your friends don't listen, its OK. Do it for yourself and be an example of graceful living. You'll be glad you did. GTKK
