hi

in your previous response to answer, you told me that a man had money, no hardships and was still not happy, because he was looking for a wife.
now if a person is in a situation like that, what is the best thing for him to do, should he ask God to help him out or should he not ask and try himself when it seems hopeless
Another question, when things in life seem hopeless and you need some kind of help, will God help you or do you have to do it yourself.

Sat Sri Akal,

The reason we meditate or paath is to attain higher levels of understanding and ultimately to be one with Waheguru. We don't meditate or paath to gain material wealth. We don't ask god for things, that is not the point. So does meditating or doing paath help you in finding a wife? Yes, by paathing and meditating you help yourself in seeing the world more completely. For example, in the U.S. many people go to bars to search for dates, obviously this is not the best place to look for a wife (and might also contribute to this nations nearly 50% divorce rate). By meditating you can realize that their is more to marrying someone than what they are like on the outside. You learn to appreciate good qualities in people.

Waheguru helps you by letting you help yourself. By studying the teachings of the Gurus, you can learn to live a full and enriched life. You can learn to control yourself and your emotions. By keeping in good sangat you will be surrounded by good people. But all this doesn't just happen. You have to actively pursue it. In this way, when you meditate or do paath, Waheguru is helping you out by giving you a higher level of understanding and consciousness which will help you in your daily life (God doesn't "let" you win the lottery just because you go to the Gurdwara everyday and ask for it -- that's not the point of Sikhism).

Gur Fateh,
HSD
