Waheguruji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh......

I am a sikh and live in Thailand. i have had very long hair till i was 27 years and now have got a hair cut just 2 years back and really short. after having short hair i have felt much easier. But I have a son also and he has usual long hair.....but i dont want him to have long hair because he is studying in a boarding school and it's difficult for him to do his hair. I have told him many times to have short hair but he would say NO MAMA i am a Sikh and will not cut. Is it wrong if I tell him to cut as he is in boarding. I have a daughter also and I dont want her to cut and she says that I want to have short hair like you. please answer is it wrong?

Sat Siri Akaal. I'm sorry to hear you felt that you had to cut your hair to be Sikh. Given the example you have set, you cannot blame your daughter for wanting to cut her hair to be like you. So, either let her cut her hair or GROW your hair back to be like her. As for your son, you will destroy more than your son's hair to cut it since he is at boarding school. Honor your son's spirit and Sikh path and let him keep his hair. Teach him how to take care of his hair--he'll get it if he wants to keep it. If you cut it you will destroy trust he has in you and create division in your family, as he will feel violated by his own mother on this, just as our Sikh ancestors have whenever our hair and scalp was cut by our enemies. In short, stop letting hair divide your family. You have created this situation, dear one, so now you need to resolve it.
Guru rakha,
