Sat Sri Akaal My fellow Sikhs,

This is my understanding on the issue. It is simple. God designed us to have long hair and if you cut it you are going against God's Will. Not a good idea if your life's goal is to merge with God and stop the cycle of rebirth (continued suffering!). You may not know it but you are suffering right now! Everyday you have to get up and go to college/work and prepare/make a living. This is hard work. Do you want to do this over and over again?

My second point is regarding homae (ego/self). This separates you from God. It is a wall that needs to be pierced so that you can meet God at the other side. The moment you cut your hair you will feel regret. You will have made it harder to travel on your path to meet God. You will be saying to God that YOU (the self) are more importent than God in your life! You still have your ego right now. Let it go, and accept God's will. What you are saying is that a YOU exits. There is no YOU, it's all an illusion (maya), everything (and eveyone) IS GOD! That IS THE TRUTH, there is NO YOU. When you realise this and accept it you will know that cutting your hair is not the way forward. For example, if you want your father to do something for you is it not better to request it when he is pleased with you? What I am saying is that there will be many occasions in your life to ask something from God and if you have displeased Him you requests will not be granted swiftly.

I hope this helps. Make the right decision my friend.
Sat Sri Akaal,
Dalip Singh
