Sat Siri Akaal.

Our souls are age-old, and came/come from Waheguru. Waheguru gave our souls the priviledge of incarnating in physical form. The purpose of EVERY soul is to learn and grow and have a CONCIOUS experience of Waheguru in physical form. Not only Sikh Gurus knew this: Jesus the Christ knew/knows God, Mohammed the Muslim Prophet knew/knows God.

Through the cycle of births and deaths (reincarnation), we create and often, repeat karmas, which represent lessons our souls need to learn. When we learn them we usually move on to new lessons. The more we understand about God's law (Hukam), the less 'bad' karma we create and the better our lives are.

Siri Guru tells us that by living DHARMA instead of KARMA, that cycle is ended and we merge in Waheguru without having to come back into physical form again and again. The way to live DHARMA as a Sikh is to observe diligently and devotedly the four pillars of Sikh faith: bani, bana, simran, seva. Bani is our recitation of Guru's bani in Siri Guru and in Paath; bana is the form--kesh and turban and kara and kirpan and kechera, etc. Simran is meditative chanting of the Holy Naam. Seva is serving others and serving Guru without any thought of being noticed or rewarded for same.

I hope this answers your question.
Guru ang sang,
-DKK
