Summary of Question:Respect To Sanchi
Category:Sikh Practices
Date Posted:Monday, 5/10/2004 11:57 AM MDT

Sat Sri Akal,

Yesterday I got Sachis (2) of Shri guru Granth Sahib. I was thinking about it for a while and finally when I came to know it's available, I got excited. I got it right away. During my excitement, I forget that I live in a one-bedroom apartment and its on ground floor. I have only one closet where I kept the Sancis (on a higher shelf) for now but I have to open this again and again to get my clothes and stuff. I got Sanchis so that I can do Sehaj Path at home.

So please tell me what should I do to give the full respect? Is it ok to keep Sanchi in closet? Is it ok to do Path from it even when there are people who live in upstairs apartment?

Thanks!

Try to make a little sacred space for SGGS on the closet shelf. When you are preparing to read, do Ardas and bow. Put sanchi on a book holder or small table that you can sit comfortably at. Buy some cloth that is only for SGGS or get some small ramallahs. Keep ramalla or book covers on Guru's binding, and use the ramaallahs or cloth to cover Guru and to set Guru on the bookholder or table. Guru would rather share your home than not! Don't worry about the folks upstairs. Just use your love of Guru and your respect to create a space that is Guru's, even if you take apart and put together the space every time you read. I had the same problem and that's how I did it.
Some people put Guru on a small bir in a corner of the room and then buy one of those standing screens to block off Guru so Babaji has his own roomlet, so to speak. Guru ang sang,
