Sat Sri Akal,

There is nothing wrong with girls. What is wrong is indian culture. In India,
girls generally don't have a very favorable status, especially in the olden
days. In fact, almost all around the world, women were second class citizens.
The Gurus changed that, saying that all people were equal, men and women.

When people treat boys are better than girls it is only because these people are living in the past and are ignorant. Boys and girls should be treated equally. That is on of the things that Sikhism is about and that is something the Gurus taught us.

My father used to tell me a little story that we should all try to understand. It is this: A man went to a sadhu and asked "Who is the supreme being?" The sadhu replied, "It is God, of course." Then the man asked, "Who is number 2 on the list?". The sadhu replied, "It is a woman." Then man asked again, "Who is next on the list?" The sadhu replied, "I will tell you when I find out."

Please be patient with people who are ignorant and do not understand that all people are equal. Try to explain to them that the Gurus said that men and women were equal, there is no distinction. In turn, you can teach those younger to you that everyone is equal.

I hope this helps.

Gur Fateh,
HSD
