Summary of Question:Shaved Legs

I started to like this girl at a Gurmukh Camp, but recently found out that she shaves her legs because she plays a lot of sports. I don't know what to do. I have made up my mind that I will never cut my hair, not even a little bit, so should I convince her to stop because if we have a long term relationship I don't want my daughters to do the same. I am so confused, I really like her but it seems that she is not the only one. So many girls have been shaving their legs because "society" makes them feel that way and I'm sick of it. Please give me some advice (should I forget about her or let her live the way she wants to

live?).

My dear beta,

You are judging her and her actions. When you like someone it is best to discuss concerns together. Ask her why she does this....in a non threatening way. Offer your support to her. Encourage her to find another way of seeing herself. Beautiful soft silky hairs buffering the magnetic field of her body. Bleach-able in the sun.

Following the actions of the group is not being a leader, it is being a follower. Women have great strength for inspiration and leadership. They are also very group oriented, and perhaps this holds her back in fear for the group opinion, or judgement. In the 1960's it was very "cool" to have body hair and we were proud for this. That is another perspective and another orientation that she can even start amongst her friends and peers.

Encourage her to find alternatives without judgement. Letting her know how much you like and respect her ability to be as she is, rather than alter her body will be encouragement. Give her time to listen to your views and digest this for herself.

I believe in you,

God bless you,

SK
