Sat Siri Akal.

This is a very touchy subject. I think the simple truth is that most of the Sikh community suffers from homophobia. In other words, Indian culture especially is very negative towards homosexuality. Because of this, there will be a great resistence to the idea of a gay couple getting married in front of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. Does this mean it is "wrong" or "improper" to do so? Does this mean that the Guru doesn't "approve" of homosexuality? My own opinion is that Guru teaches everyone was created by God - so how can we reject a person or deny them any spiritual blessing simply because God created them slightly different? However, it will take many many years within the Sikh community of conversations, soul-searching - of gay Sikhs coming out and doing the work to confront and heal this issue - before a neutral assesment of theology can even begin to answer this question. Before we can understand whether gay marriages are supported in Sikhi, first the prejudice, intolerance and homophobia towards homosexuality has to be healed.

God bless.
