Sat Siri Akal.

If you look at the Sikh Dharma Manual on SikhNet and especially Chapter 7 - it will tell you a lot about how to show the proper respect and care for the Siri Guru Granth Sahib.

Why is showing respect to the Guru important? It reflects that you respect your own soul, God and your highest consciousness. The Guru is our guide to Truth. We respect it as our Teacher - and the Teacher who teaches us the most important things. How to live. How to die. How to know how we are. How to act and treat each other. When you know these things, you can live a very healthy, happy and holy life. So - the Guru is our teacher. We show respect to our teacher for what that teacher can give to us. That helps us respect our own soul. And there are appropriate ways to treat the Guru that you can read about in the Sikh Dharma Manual.

Hope this is helpful.

Love and blessings.
