Summary of Question:Guru's Guidance On Personal Issue?
Category:General Sikhism

Hi,

Sometimes, i'm so caught up between whether Me & my husband, should go back to india, or continue to stay in the u.s, away from our parents.
There are times, i get depressed, as i can't find a solution to this issue. I can't decide which is the correct way to go, whether to stay here, and continue with our lives, or go back, where we belong.

Should we just accept this as Vaheguru's hukam? I wanted to know, that if we are under God's hukam then why do we have such thoughts? And, what is the solution. If it is his hukam, to live life in a certain way, and all actions are predestined, then what is the best way to suppress all the unwanted thoughts? When i read the banis, my confidence in his doing increases, but there are times, when i'm confused, as to what steps to take... If Vaheguru can guide, what is the way we can receive his guidance & decide what is best for us?
Thanks
Meghan.

Sat Siri Akaal. First of all, be very clear on your motives for going or not. A practical thing to do is make a list of all the pros and cons of staying and of leaving. Sometimes writing it down will make something so clear that is otherwise spinning around in one's head and making one feel muddled.

AFTER you have done that to clarify your own motives and emotions on this, THEN either by yourself or with your husband, chant the naam and clear your mind, stand and recite ardaas before Siri Guru Granth Sahib and request Guru's guidance on the wisdom of returning to India. Then take a hukum from SGGS and see what Guru says. Study it and the answer should be clear to you. Then follow it, and accept it as Guru's will.

The best way to suppress, or rather, CLEAR, unwanted thoughts is naam simran. Read SGGS and see that Guru's one and only order is to meditate, meditate, and chant the Naam. The neutral mind, the inner peace that comes from daily naam simran will give you clarity of mind, purpose, and direction.
Guru ang sang,
