Waheguru Ji Ka khalsa,

Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh !

I m not sure how to ask this question but here it goes and i hope you can make some sense out of it... When I am at the gurudwara, my mind often wanders and I start to get sexual thoughts while sitting in the gurudwara. I would then have to actively control what I think because I dont want to commit more Paap than I already have. But there's another side to this question: When I am WITH my wife at home, I often end up thinking about gurus, and recite paath in my mind when I am suppose to be in a different frame of mind. My question is that Is there any time that's NOT appropriate to do Path? Please reply to this question as I am very confused on this issue.

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa,
Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

First - the Guru teaches us to continually meditate on the Name of God. So if you find yourself in a spiritual bliss while you are with your wife - that's a very Divine thing - enjoy it. It's very special and it raises the vibration of your time together. Continually meditating on the Name of God means that in every circumstance of life, it is perectly wonderful to meditate on Gurbani - no matter what other task you are doing.

As for Gurdwara - the power of Gurbani cleanses our subconscious mind. So when we sit in the sangat and meditate on the Guru's words, things that are normally hidden in our subconscious will rise up. It's like Guru Nanak says in Japji - the Nam will cleanse the mind of its dirt. And it works the same way - Gurbani goes in, dirt comes out, keep meditating and the dirt will wash away.

If you can just relax into it and let it be, you'll be fine. You don't have to repress the thoughts - just keep your mind focused on Gurbani and know that the thoughts will eventually wash away on their own. It's just a thought. Paap is the uncontrolled action, not the very normal, human play of the mind. So be kind to yourself in those moments, don't let the thoughts bother you, just be grateful that the Guru is giving your mind a good cleansing and keep chanting.

All love,

GPK
