Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa,
Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

What's important to remember is that the Guru speaks to you through the Naad of the Shabd. What I may understand from reading the Shabd is based on what my soul needs to hear, but what you understand will be based on what your soul needs to hear. So-I am happy to share my thoughts, but ultimately, the true meaning of this Shabd lies within your own deep meditation on the words.

Here is the Shabd. I've added comments under each line.

(350-9)
aasaa mehlaa 1.
Aasaa, First Mehl:

vaajaa mat pakhaavaj bhaa-o.
Make your intellect your instrument, and love your tambourine;

Your mind is given to you to make music that will guide your life. And love is the beat behind it.

ho-ay anand sadaa man chaa-o.
thus bliss and lasting pleasure shall be produced in your mind.

If you search for bliss and pleasure that never ends, you will find it in the love of your Lord.

ayhaa bhagat ayho tap taa-o.
This is devotional worship, and this is the practice of penance.

Love is all that's needed. Simply loving the One who created the creation. This love is devotion. This love is penance. Nothing but the love of that One is required.

it rang naachahu rakh rakh paa-o. ||1||
So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||1||

Let every step you take in your life be a step in the dance of love with the One Spirit.

pooray taal jaanai saalaah.
Know that the perfect beat is the Praise of the Lord;

Every step, in your heart, praise the Creator, praise the wonders of what that Creator has made. If you, with every step, simply LOVE the life that you've been given and can see the One behind it who is giving it to you, your life will move in the perfect rhythm and beat.

hor nachnaa khusee-aa man maah. ||1|| rahaa-o.
other dances produce only temporary pleasure in the mind. ||1||Pause||

You can praise your job. Praise your spouse. Praise you culture and country. But none of these praises bring the perfect dance. They are impermanent and will eventually fade away.

sat santokh vajeh du-ay taal.
Play the two cymbals of truth and contentment.

Truth and contentment - that's what the Guru says over and over. Live in the Truth and be CONTENT in that truth.

pairee vaajaa sadaa nihaal.
Let your ankle bells be the lasting Vision of the Lord.

See the One in all things and let that Vision adorn and delight you, the way ankle bells would.

raag naad nahee doojaa bhaa-o.
Let your harmony and music be the elimination of duality.

Duality is the perception that you are separate from God, or that anything in creation is separate from God. By its nature, non-duality is not a state that can be expressed in words. It is an experiential state, attained through grace by those who meditate on the Guru's word in the company of the holy. The elimination of duality will create harmony in your life-no matter what the circumstances or the environments, you will always hear the music of the One.

it rang naachahu rakh rakh paa-o. ||2||
So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||2||

Again, let the love of that One-the gratitude of giving you the gift of life-be the beat that guides your every step.

bha-o fayree hovai man cheet.
Let the fear of God within your heart and mind be your spinning dance,

When one is afraid of God, then one fears nothing else. It's the greatest paradox. "Fear" God-in the sense that-if I don't follow the calling of my soul, worse things await me. If a bully tries to get you to do something, but you know your soul says, "No. This is not the path of Truth," the fear of God may sometimes give you the courage to overcome your fear of the bully. Let that fear be an ecstacy of love, a wild abandon so that nothing else but the connection between you and God can guide you.

bahdi-aa uth-di-aa neetaa neet.
and keep up, whether sitting or standing.

The greatest mantra of this time is, "Keep up." Keep up with the love, no matter what position you are in. No matter what, keep up.

laytan layt jaanai tan su-aahu.
To roll around in the dust is to know that the body is only ashes.

Your body is made of dust. It is only organized for a brief moment in time to experience the wonder of the Divine in the Creation. But know it for what it is-dust, ashes, something impermanent and fleeting.

it rang naachahu rakh rakh paa-o. ||3||
So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||3||

Same as above. Let the love of that One guide your every step in life.

sikh sabhaa deekhi-aa kaa bhaa-o.
Keep the company of the disciples, the students who love the teachings.

Spend time with people who love the teachings of the Guru and who discipline themselves to live by them. "Disciple" is one who lives by the disciplne.

gurmukh sun-naa saachaa naa-o.
As Gurmukh, listen to the True Name.

Speak with the words of the Guru, and listen to the True Name which is beyond any human name, the True Name that lives within the depth of you in your own meditaiton.

naanak aakhan vayraa vayr.
O Nanak, chant it, over and over again.

Meditate on that True Name ceaselessly.

it rang naachahu rakh rakh pair. ||4||6||
So dance in this love, and keep the beat with your feet. ||4||6||

The relationship between the soul and the Creator is a pure ecstacy of love. We only have to clear the cobwebs out of ourselves in order to experience it. When that love of God guides your every step, life becomes a dance with the Universe-carefree and joyous.

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa,
Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

Sincerely,

GPK
