dear brave high schooler

me as well as many other sikh youth have gone through that at some point in our lives. growing up in this country esp. where sikhs are never heard of is not only hard but very emotionally disturbing.

i would strongly suggest you start wearing a small turban to school (prefrebaly black color).. it doesnt have to be big cuz its hard to change etc and run around in gym.

i started out high school with a patka.. since i was the only sikh they had ever seen.. i was stared at and even made fun of by older kids.. i went thru many sleepless nights and got very upset...
then i started wearing a turban.. then things started changing
people got more tolerant.. and gave respect ..
sure in the begening i had to explain to them why i changed.. but they understood.. plus they had seen turbans before.. but they had never seen a patka..
since then i have never worn a patka in my life.. i think it looks ridiculous..

so i strongly encourage you to start wearing turban and face the people who give you trouble.. become educated and try to spread the word of sikhism and its beliefs
