Summary of Question:Non - Veg And Veg: Vegetarianism In Sikhism
Category:General Sikhism
Date Posted:Monday, 9/03/2001 8:52 AM MDT

i recently went to india and at a gurudwara i found a book on the sikh guru's and their teachings and i read a whole passage about how guru angad dev ji told guru amar das ji off for being a vegetarian. Guru Angad dev ji had said "there is life in everything; even fruits and flowers have life. Whatever is eaten while remembering god is like nectar itself".

if this is true than why are half of the sikhs vegetarian.
In the other questions you have answered you have not put across clearly wether sikhs should be vegetarians or non - vegetarian you have only said that sikhs have different beliefs.
can u please answer my question

Sat Sri Akal,

It is not a question of beliefs, Sikhs should NEVER consume meat of any kind (normal or halal/kosher). There are other replies you can do a search on to find specific references.

"Sikhs" who eat meat are not true Sikhs. It is clearly written that meat is something no one should eat.

Gur Fateh,
HSD
