WJKK WJKF

i'm 26 years old, i dont drink everyday but when i do, it makes me do crazy stuff and hurt the people i love. i cant drink socially, i drink to the point where i pass out or get into a fight. just this year, i started doing cocaine. i havent done it a lot, but it seems like most people i hang out with do it so it always seems to be around and if i keep going the way i am, one day i might get addicted. the other day i was out with my girl friend and some friends, and i got so drunk my girl friend actually saw me do some. now she wont speak to me. i can understand why, its bad enough i act like a jerk when im drunk but now im doing drugs too. she's had enough of me and my stupid ways.
anyways, this was a real wake up call for me. up to that point, i didn't realize how out of control i really was. i want to stop everything now, drinking, smoking, drugs. i have had enough. i want to become a better person, a better Sikh. i am so sick of hurting the people i love. it's time to change my life around. i want to know what u suggest will help me with this battle, i need some guidance.

thank you

Well, you have reached the first step. Deciding that you want to change. You are not a victim. You can change. First of all, you need to make new friends and stop hangiing out with the old ones. You don't say where you live, but try to find a group of people your age whose lives are centered around the Guru. Start hanging out with them. Perhaps you can attend a Sikh Youth Camp or Samelan nearby to meet such people. Changing the company you keep is the next step. Then start deepening your own experience of the Guru in your life.
