hi,

i am really confused at this point. My mother's family is a mix of sikhs and hindus while my father's family are all sikhs. Since i was born my mother cut my hair, and i now that i have matured i am starting to feel bad about my hair being cut. I would like to grow my hair and i am willing to learn how to take care of it and how to wear a turban. However I get scared that my mom will get mad at me for regrowing it after she cut it since i was 1 (i'm 16). I also guilty of commiting a sin as my hair is cut. I have read that on the that if one's hair is cut he is no longer a sikh. My mother tells she has made me a hindu, but i have grown on sikh values of life and have been going to Gurdawaras all my life. What should i do?

Sat Siri Akaal. Since cutting your hair was not done by you, but by your mother, YOU have committed no 'sin.' Your mother hasn't either, for that matter, since she says she raised you as a Hindu.
What is important here is that if you are really CHOOSING to be Sikh, and to live as Sikh, it would be a crime not to. It would be a kind of denial of self.
Hair doesn't grow out in a day. Start calmly explaining to your mother that you feel you are Sikh from the inside and want to look it as well. It's your life, not your mother's. Contrary to parental opinion, children are not owned by their parents, they are gifts from God and God has His own plans for them. Sounds to me like God is calling you to be Gursikh. Go from there.
Guru ang sang,
-DKK
