(REPLY) Sat Nam. The importance and value of taking Amrit is that by making that COMMITMENT you receive special blessings, help and from the father of the Khalsa, Guru Gobind Singh, as he is now YOUR father! There is no discussion of Amrit in the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, because it did not exist during the time that those sacred words were spoken by our Gurus who are included in it. Khalsa is the final flowering of the seeds planted by Guru Nanak that were nourished by each successive Guru who added another dimension to our faith and our understanding of how to live as Sikhs. Guru Gobind Singh established the Amrit Sanchar in 1699 and himself was baptised -- so that all Khalsa would no longer bow to any man -- and we were given the Shabd Guru as our final, one and only living Guru. Also, the first step toward happiness is Commitment! That leads to developing character which brings you to dignity which leads to divinity and then to the ability to sacrifice, which ultimately brings happiness! Selflessness (which is sacrifice), kindness, serving others, courage, compassion, majesty, these are the qualities that make us godlike and lead to our merging with God. I hope this answer is somewhat helpful. Blessings, SP
