Summary of Question:Response To Hair In Other Religions
Category:Hair
Date Posted:Wednesday, 6/05/2002 2:28 AM MDT

Actually there are some other religions in which they are not to cut there hair.

In the bible it speaks of the nazarites vow in numbers6:5 which states durring the vow no razor shall be placed on the head and they are also to abstain from dead things and anything made from the vine(grapejuice, wine, etc).Jesus himself was a nazarene and probably underwent the vow.One of the judges Samson whose life was ordained to be a nazir(one who takes the nazarites vow) from birth explained by the angel who told of his birth.I think it is interesting that in the story of his life his hair was symbolic for his strength that God gave him and when he gave that up he found himslef shackled and bound in a mill.Yet when his hair grew back the strength of God came upon him agian and he defeated his earthly advasary. One more thing i wanted to comment about is the rastafarians and theyre locks of hair. The lock is stronger than 1 strand symbolizing unity.
In both the Nazir and Rasta s belief it is also an outward distinction of a man of God seperated from the world.

Greetings and blessings to you. It is always good to be educated and to understand the other religions of the world. Just think how great it will be when more people "out there" know about our Sikh practices and our way of life?!
