wjkk wjkf.. i need help i want to take amrit. but my parents say i am too young. i am 13. I feel like i am ready. Should they be allowed to stop me? i mean if i am ready why should anyone tell me i am not.

Sat Siri Akaal. I do not think this is worth fighting over, since you are only 13. While I agree that you are the one to know if you are ready or not, Your folks think they know what is best for you, which I admit is not always the case. If you are dependent on them to approve or help you make this baptism happen,then you are stuck.

You could always take this approach: prove to them you are ready by ACTING Amritdhari. Act as if you have already taken Amrit. This is a good way to test yourself as well. Amrit is a sacred vow with karmic consequences for those that break it. So you really want to be READY. It is not something to do as a competition or status thing in relation to other Sikh youths.
So, do your nitnaym daily, start chanting naam simran daily, tie your kesh up in a turban and wear your 5 Ks, develop the consciousness of sant-sapahee, or saint-soldier.
