Waheguru....

Hi Im A 14 Year Old Guy From England And I Have 2 Questions I Would Like To Ask....
Question 1- Have you got a prayer that i can say every morning cause i used to pray every morning but then i suddenly just stopped....
and im looking for a prayer.... I was thinking off just opening up with the first part of jap ji sahib.... up to nanak a hosee bee satch.....
thats what i start off saying and then I would just say a few words to god and everyone that is up in the heaven with him and then i would close it off by saying waheguru....
Have you got any ideas?
Question 2-When I say waheguru I say it 4 times and then when i say waheguru another 4 times i make a cross on my chest like christians do because i am very believable in Jesus Just as in Sikhism....what i wanted to know is....am i disrespecting any of the 2 religions by doin things like that?

Thanks Very Much

Waheguru.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. First, a question, are you a Sikh? If you are, then there is already a prayer established to use, it is called ARDAS. In the Ardas, after respectfully remembering the history of those who have preceded us and sacrificed everything to stay on this privileged path, there is space to put in your own personal words to God. However, when you say you are praying to "god and everyone that is up in heaven with him.." do you really mean that you have such a limited understanding of God's existence, that you are imagining him as a person sitting up in some place called heaven? God is an all pervading transcendent as well as imminent deity. Sorry if those words are too big. Look them up! G O D - that which Generates, Organizes, and then Delivers or Destroys all creation. It's fine to recite the Mul Mantra, first part of Japji any time, and if you really want to get in touch with your soul, you recite the whole Japji Sahib every morning, and then pray. It's excellent to say Wahe Guru any time, the more the better. But crossing yourself? What's that all about? It means you're referring to the Christian concepts of Father, Son (Jesus the Christ) and the Holy Ghost. Now we, as Sikhs can love and respect Christ- in fact we should, but praying to him as a Deity? Come on now, get real. Sikhs worship ONLY the One God and Guru.I think you're not sure yet of who you really are, and maybe that will take some time, but meanwhile use the precious legacy of prayers and practices that our Gurus provided for us -- and you will be blessed! You might want to get the translation of the daily banis in the book "PEACE LAGOON" so you can understand more. May God bless you and Guru guide you! SP
