Vi-guru-ji-ki-khalsa-vi-guru-ji-ke -fateh (please forgive me if it has been mispelt.

I would like to ask you the follwowing questions;

1. In order to get rid of evil; meaning like an evil presence etc.....what words can be spoken to drive this away. I usually call upon vi-guru.....Is there anything else i should know? (just to let you know that I once read that, there is no need to be scared of anything as the only person you need to fear is from GOD; which is true and does work!!!!! But just out of interest if u can please answer the above question).

2. Does Evil really exist or is it all in ones mind; if it doesn't exist then what was Ravan (in the hindu religion about)?

Thank you for taking ur time in reading this e-mail.

p.s. Its very good that you have this forum, as it has answered many questions about sikhism.

(REPLY) Sat Nam. Good and evil are relative terms and they do exist in this manifest creation. There is dark and there is light, there is day and there is night. Without polarity, this creation merges back into the infinite. So, I would say, yes, "evil" exists. When and if you feel threatened or frightened or insecure about something in your surroundings, there are several mantras of protection that you might want to repeat; Aad Guray Nameh, Jugaad Guray Nameh, Sat Guray Nameh, Siri Guru Dayvay Nameh. (picture Guru Nanak on your right side with the first phrase, Guru Angad behind you on the second, Guru Amar Das on your left with the third, and Guru Ram Das in front of you.) You can repeat this sequence as many times as you wish. Guru NAnak's son, Baba Siri Chand can be called upon for protection, but only one repetition, and only once a day (!) with these words: Aluck Baba Siri Chand de rackh. Another powerful way to feel the reality of God's protection with every breath is to recite: Ang Sang Wahe Guru. Just remember, Faith is the opposite of fear, and where there is faith, there can be no fear. Blessings, SP
