Summary of Question:Women Covering Their Heads

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh. My question is regarding women covering their heads. I know Guru Gobind Singh Ji referred to both men and women tying keskis/ turbans. I would like to tie a turban as I am hoping to take amrit before I turn 21 but I was just wondering if sikhism stresses covering your head or tying a turban.

For example the akand kirtani jatha state that the Guru Granth Sahib stresses tying a turban as part of the K's and keeping your hair as part of this.

I personally feel I am not ready for a keski yet, as I would like to practice at home and get it right/feel comfortable. (I know that sounds odd!). But I would like to cover my head, by doing a bun and covering my head with a black cloth. Is this acceptable??

A few people have advised me against this, as they argue it is not part of the sikh uniform and people will not be able to identify me as a Sikh. However, in England many young sikh women have adopted this patka.

What is your advice on the above issues?

Many Thanks.

There is a scientific technology in tying a turbin. It is not JUST for show or uniform or identity. Try putting your hair in a rishi knot and tying a turbin for a half day, then a full day and see how you feel. Then, try wearing your hair down without a turbin. Do this a few times and FEEL the difference. Do you feel more calm, centered, projective, protected with your turbin? Do you feel more vulnerable and scattered without it? Experiment on your self. Then, you can make your decision. Let us know how it goes. GTKK
