Summary of Question:Sikh And Hindu - Converting To Sikh
Category:Love & Marriage
Date Posted:Sunday, 11/23/2003 8:25 AM MST

I have some enquiries to make and I decided to post it up here. Im a hindu, but Ive been with a sikh for 4 years. We love each other dearly and one day plan to marry. The problem is quite obvious. Our cultural and religious differences. Im planning to convert so that I can learn more about sikhism and be part of the culture. My boyfriend is very supportive but he told me if i want to convert I should do it on my own free will. This Ive got no problem. 1stly, Im from Singapore and though it may not sound real, his parents are totally against us.

My parents are open minded and are okay with it. But his parents dont want us to be together. I want to convert to Sikhism not just because of him, but because I like the culture and their beliefs. I need advice on how to start, where to learn more about sikhism, and what I should know before I take the step to becoming sikh myself. I really need your advice. Thank you.

Sat Siri Akaal. There are many Sikhs and gurdwaras in Singapore. Look them up and start there. Have them help you. Read every page in Sikhnet, and go to www.sikhseek.com for more Sikh sites. Read Siri Guru Granth Sahib (find it on Sikhnet) so you have some idea what it says. Good luck. Guru ang sang,
