Waheguru Jee Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Jee Ka Fateh

Thanx for doing such a great job on Sikhnet, You have provided fantastic answers to my questions before and i hope you can do the same again.
My problem is that my school in England is having a prom for the Year 11's and really it is a symbolic event in marking the end of school life and saying goodbye to friends you'll never see again. That is the real reason I want 2 go and I can go with a friend but i feel deep down I'll have to compromise myself. I don't wear dresses, make up or jewellery and if I'm 2 go then I'll need to adjust. So far despite having taunts etcetera about facial hair, being a Sikh etcetera I managed to maintain some aspects of Sikhi in me. I am definitely not a brilliant Sikh but I don'y cut or remove any of my hair, drink, dress up etcetera and one day I hope to take Amrit. Deep down I know I should avoid the prom but is there a way I can go and still maintain my grace/dignity.
Sorry if this is long-winded but I really need advice quickly. Thank you

Dear one, The whole purpose of the event is to have fun. Can you go as who you are and still feel good? Can you go looking different and still have fun? If it not going to be fun, then don't go.

Could it be that your intuition is checking with you to consider how you will participate without thinking that you need to change yourself just to fit in this time?

Sounds like you have maintained yourself in a graceful uncompromising attitude so far. So keep up. Be a very elegant Gursikh young lady and have some fun and participate in the prom party. there will be no drinking there. Go shopping and find yourself a very graceful elegant and high fashion Indian langa or beautiful pant suit. I have seen some VERY elegant suits in the Indian shops. Have a Gursikh escort that would also dress up elegantly and proudly. I think you can fit in in a graceful and majestic way. You can set a new standard amongst your peers and be inspiring too.

Guru Gobind Singh dressed in elegance and majesty. He maintained his identity and did not compromise.

God bless you,
SKKK
