Sat Nam

There is nothing wrong with hanging out with friends, dancing, etc. But as with all things of Maya, they can not bring sustained happiness and contentment to a life because they are based in desire - the desire to be loved, accepted, appreciated, etc.

You are correct that only through constant meditation on the Nam can the mind be trained to be calm, so that life may be lived in total aware consciousness, as opposed to being governed by our subconscious desires and impulses.

You may find however, that over time meditation does not become a discipline or a challenge but a constant expression of Love between you and God. At that point, every activity is equally satisfying, because all activities are seen as existing within the eternity of WaheGuru. Those who have found the greatest joy and contentment in this life have done so through love of God.

ssa,
this question might be weird but i have always wondered about this when i started learning about sikhism....
things like music, school, hanging out with friends, dancing...etc ...dont these things take you away from God...our mind is soooooo weak that it will continuosly do these things w/o God in mind ...arnt these things FAKE as well???so why do we encourge it so much? like i understand that one has to live as well and cant pray 24/7 but shouldn't we teach the mind to be pray 24/7 and then when it understands this...we can allow it some degree of these fun stuff...am i totally wrong...i feel like thats the answer i am going to receive but i think internally, one does have to at some point control your mind..right?????
thanks for ur imput!!!
